Orion21 Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 I think every cigar lover tries to do it if they have the self control/space -- save a box or two for special occasions. So here is my question: What boxes have you set aside for special occasions and why? I have two boxes of BHK 52's and a box of Monte Grand Edmundo from the month and year of my son's birth to enjoy with him someday. I would love to hear your stories. Cheers and happy smoking!
Skitalets Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Monte "A" (5's box) I like smoking a great cigar on a special occasion. Extra special occasions call for smoking a great cigar for 2.5 hrs. :-)
matt14 Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Sublimes, I smoke one a year on my birthday, cracked a bottle of Paradis 3 years ago atmy home after my birthday bash with my Dad the night before he travelled back to the UK after my wedding, was the last drink I had with my Father before he past away. Kinda my thing now to have a glass from the same bottle and smoke another stick every year. I also have boxes of Dukes and Pacificos with the Box code of the month he past away.
almudawi Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Not a box per say but I am saving 4 cohiba GRs to celebrate the birth of my children. The wife is pregnant with our 1st so I'll be smoking one soon. Also, a box of LGC Medaille D'or no 1 (1996) that I have 1 cigar from on my birthday.
Puros Y Vino Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 For me...not so much boxes but singles. My 50th is a long way so none of these are candidates unless I can find some stogies from my birth year. But on upcoming birthdays...the following..in no particular order. 1960 RyJ Cedros No 1 1982 Davidoff No2 (Tubo) 1980 Davidoff Chateau Margaux 1985 Davidoff Dom Perignom Also, BHK56 box...will not crack for a few years. 2001 Dip 5's. 1998 RyJ Prince of Wales (2 sticks)
stogieokie Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 I was lucky enough to score a fiver of some 1950's Hoyo Seleccion Superba de JJ No. 6 (EMS) a couple of years ago. I recently smoked the first one and was AMAZED at how well it had stood the test of time. Sure wish I'd gotten more of them now . . .
Lotusguy Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Got a couple of Cohiba GR and a box each of the BHK52 and 54. I really wanted to have a box of cigars from my birth year to smoke one on my birthday every year but I have not been able to locate anything from 1971 yet...
maverickdrinker Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 multiple boxes of 08 monte sublimes to celebrate my wedding year. multiple boxes of 2010 monte grand edmundos to celebrate the birth of my son.
Lotusguy Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Totally forgot: a box of Monte #4 reservas as well...
CigarmanTim Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 A ten box of TEB '08 PSP Party Lusis.... I smoked one after I won the job I am currently in and will smoke another on that anniversary (Dec 27) every year after. It is the best box of cigars I've ever seen. A PSP of PSP's.
stinkhead Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I have a single Davidoff 5000 from the 80's, 3 CGR, 3 O'Reily, and as far as boxes go a jar of the La Gloria Cubana Deliciosos
Colt45 Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 If I've learned nothing else in my time here, it's that tomorrow is not guaranteed. Every day is a special day.
Len Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I have Cohiba Sig VI's that i'll only smoke on very special occasions, a Cohiba 35th Anniversario lancero i'm still trying to decide when to smoke this year, and some BGM's.
Hohenthal Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Punch rs #11 Punch ss #1 Partagas SdC #2 QdO Panetelas and a few more, the common denominator: discontinued!
Michel1968 Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I hope to lite two Cohiba GR's with my daughter when see turns 18. Bought them the day we found out it was going to be a girl and I had an instant vision doing this. So that's another 16,5 years to go... hmm...
Pilgrims Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I haven't bought any specials yet but I have a good feeling about Partags SP2's with some age and plan on laying a box down. I tend to find the higher the expectation the higher the potential disppointment so try to avoid saving too many things for the "ideal" day...more have things ready for when the mood strikes
bolivr Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Lusis TEB May08. Got 9 out of the ten box left
laficion Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 tomorrow is not guaranteed. Every day is a special day. Excellent Ross, I was thinking the same thing. My father told me one day, " Guy, If after 40 years old you wake up in the morning feeling NO aches and pains, It may be that you're dead". So, with the few aches & pains that I have, I'm happy to celebrate life everyday with a fine cigar. Everyday is a special occasion in itself.
Hash Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Cohiba Sublimes Extra, and the Cohiba GR, but still waiting for that special occasion.
Orion21 Posted October 26, 2011 Author Posted October 26, 2011 I agree with Colt45, every single day is special and I am thankful every morning I open my eyes to another day. BUT, since I am only 31 I feel that I hopefully have at least another 5 or so decades in me to enjoy with the ones I love. Cheers to everyone who has posted and let's hear some more stories.
Dbone Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Not to sound like a pessimist, but I've stopped saving cigars for special occasions. The special occasions I have would have been just as good smoking a CGR or a Boli PC. In fact my super tasty cigars I tend to smoke when I'm alone or with my wife, or brothers, very little distractions and can enjoy every second of it. That in itself makes for a special occasion. Would I smoke a CGR on just an ordinary day, if that's what grabbed my attention then yeah I would. The last time I had a special smoke was for my anniversary where I broke out a box bought on our honeymoon. I save these cigars for just that. Woo I was so stoked to have one. This year they tasted like garbage, literally like I had licked an ash tray. Maybe they went sick? Maybe a bad roll? Who knows, but after that episode I will leave the anticipation of a spectacular cigar for an even more special evening in make believe land. Just my opinion though.
ckearns Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Nice topic, Aaron. I had a couple behikes lined up to smoke with my old man when my son was born, but never actually got around to smoking them. With a new baby, life got in the way and by the time I finally got a chance to have a cigar, I reached for a quick non-specific smoke so I wasn't away for too long. Even though my plan didn't work out as intended and I learned that you can never predict what will happen, I still plan on getting a celebratory box so I can enjoy one on each of his birthdays. I just hope I can get the timing right next time LOL! Cheers.
Colt45 Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Come on! You must have SOMETHING you would only smoke on an occasion! Even if that occasion is hanging with a good friend you haven't seen in a while, thats still an occasion. Honestly, not really. On any given day I'm as likely to grab a montecristo No.4 as I am an Upmann Sir Winston. As a matter of fact, the friend scenario has come into play a few times, with Montecristo 4s being smoked. Other times, SLR Serie A, Hoyo Churchills.... The cigar was basically irrelevent - an incidental part of the meetings. Members make good points, and suggest other questions (for me): If you are saving what you consider best for the rare occasion, what are you smoking in the meantime? Just OK cigars? I'm looking for a great cigar every time I light up. What happens if the cigars you've saved are mediocre or worse? I hope I don't come off as preachy or melodramatic as that's not what I have in mind - this is just how I look at it.
Plato Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I have one Cohiba EL 2003 Double Corona And a couple Montecristo As from the early 2000s.
