Martindelmundo Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Hi gents. Just want to know how you guys feel about cigar accessories and if they are as valued to everyone else as they are to me. Cheers, Martin
CaptainQuintero Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 A good cutter is a must, you can mess up your cut and you have a useless cigar. Ashtray, I have a demi-john with a cork in the top, easy to throw away the nubs and seal it up then forget about it Cigar case, I just use old tubes from past smoked sticks.
ramon_cojones Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 I like things that look nice and are well made so my vote is in. cutters - zino and davidoff plus the cheap german single guillotines are great lighters - patio torch, multiple ronsons and dupont maxijet cases - dunhill 3 finger, dunhill terracotta travel 10ct, halliburton case ashtrays - old coffee cups or dirt ground at local patio where ashing on it is encouraged
CM125 Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 I am like captain Quintero a good Cigar cutter is a must I have a Palio and I am very happy with it. I have a punch that I just got. Ash trays I do not use since I do not smoke inside the house. I look at it as if you are going to buy 10 to 20 dollar Cigars are you going to cut it with a $2.00 cutter. Curtis

Fuzz Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Accessories! Woohoo! Sometimes I find it more enjoyable collecting accesories than smoking! 1. My ashtray is the ground as I smoke mostly in the garden! 2. 3 finger leather case, can't remember the brand. Nearly bought a Siglo case, but thought it a bit too garish for my taste. 3. Palio cutter and a PB-207 lighter.
bc8436 Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 I have 2 ST Dupont lighters, a Palio cutter and a couple of Xikars. The Palio is a nice cutter but I prefer the Xikar Xi. The design seems to give me more control over the cutter and I end up with better cuts.
SCgarman Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 I have and use 3 essentials. A 16 year old Zino Davidoff double edge guillotine cutter which still works like new. A Xikar Element dual torch lighter which I love. And a ceramic 2 cigar 5 Vegas Limitada ashtray which was free with a box purchase of cigars from a large non Cuban mail order company. That's it, nothin' more!
MrGlass Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 I use a hardwood ashtray at home with a Siglo cutter I picked up while overseas because it looked pretty and a dual torch cigar lighter. Basically, nothing particularly special, but no $5 throwaway stuff either. I go window shopping for accessories sometimes, but there are better things for me to spend my money on and what I've got works. I don't have a cigar case at this stage, but I do need to invest in two at some point - a travel humidor and case for when I'm out.
cigcars Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 I have the oval baked ceramic royal blue color Romeo & Julieta painted ash tray, deep groove on each side to accomodate a big long smoke *Have a Zino self-sharpening guillotine cutter and a Xikar brand Mean Sardine cutter that is surprisingly sharp accuracy. *Cigar case? Cigar case?? I don't need no stinking cigar case!!
ZinZan Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 I've got a palio and prometheus cutter. Lighters colibri and some cheap triple flame the brand i cant recollect. Ashtrays bought at a flea market. Forgot to add got 2 cigar cases a xikar 3 fingers and some unknown brand brown leather.
Maron76 Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 I would be lost without my Xikar cutter! I usually use my IM Corona old boy lighter unless it gets to windy then it's a Alec Bradley table burner. I also use an stainless Stinky ashtray, it's the smaller version of the one you see on the deck. I think Rob and Smithy use the herf edition one. Still looking for a nice 2 or 3 finger case, any recommendations? One with a Cuban marque on it would be cool.
Wil Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Don't use an ashtray, but recently acquired a Palio cutter and a Vector Thundra lighter from cigarmony.com Fantastic pieces of equipment!
benjaminbbush Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Ashtray-either ground or the lid to a citronella candle bucket that I have to burn when smoking or risk being carried off by mosquitoes big enough to hump a turkey flatfooted. Nubs go in the fire pit for later sacrifice! Cutter-depends. I have a little crappy $2 punch that I have taken to but I LOVE my Xikar Xi. Case-I got a deal on a Xikar 5 cigar case. I is a little bulky for daily use but works great for trips as it is "crush proof"! Lighter-Xikar single flame torch or if I am too lazy to go inside to get more fluid then I sometimes just use the citronella candle that is burning. How bad is that? Sorry this turned in commercial for Xikar and citronella.
Wil Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Don't use an ashtray, but recently acquired a Palio cutter and a Vector Thundra lighter from cigarmony.com Fantastic pieces of equipment! Also got a great two finger, leather habanos case but rarely use it as I mostly smoke at home.
laficion Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Don't use an ashtray, Wil, you don't know what you're missing if you don't have luxury accessories. Especially for a 5 star breakfast like me.
scinmyheart Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 I use a nice cutter as I feel you get what you pay for in that department...maybe I've got a couple of cigar cases, but I don't know if I've ever even used them I just use a cheap plastic ashtray from the grocery store...if I were fortunate enough to be able to smoke inside, I'd probably have a nice ashtray
Ryan Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 The only part of the poll where an answer didn't quite suit me was the cutter one. I have a cutter that I use regularly, it has sentimental value now. If I don't have it with me I still have teeth.
Ryan Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 The ashtray one reminded me of a story a friend told me years ago. He was in a pub here called Mulligan's, (good pint if you're ever in town) back before the smoking ban. He asked the barman for an ashtray, the barman told him "You're standing in it."
riazp Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 My ashtray is a cyramic ashtray a friend brought back for me from china for about 2$ its nice and heavy, thats what I was looking for, before that, I just used a small plate. My Ligher is a 20$ single Vector lighter I bought from a local B&M and it works like a charme My cutter is a siglo cutter my sister gave to me as a bday gift, before that I was using a guillotine cutter given to me at my local shop, it did the work just fine. My case is a 5 finger cigar caddy gifted to me by a fellow botl, on this board, str8dog.
Wil Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Wil, you don't know what you're missing if you don't have luxury accessories. Especially for a 5 star breakfast like me. Haha. Love the cup!
Chelsea8 Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 There is no correct option for me on the ashtray, as I have a few nice ones and use them all the time; depending on how many friends are smoking with me. Also have lots of Xikar cutters, lighters, cases and an ashtray. Plus ST Dupont lighter and Palio cutter. So yeh, I enjoy having the right accessories for my cubans. Just need to get a v cutter as I have not tried smoking with a v cut yet.
Plato Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 I really like Xikar for both my cutters and my lighters. Lighter: Xikar Element $55 USD. Double flame, and has a great cigar punch on the bottom, and it is super easy to adjust the flame on it with only using my finger nail. The punch on the bottom works great, and I use it to open boxes when I dont have my knife on me. Cutter: Xikar Xi Around $60 USD. Works great. Although I have two cigar ash trays, I've never actually paid for one. I usually just get the guys at my B&M to throw in one when I make a large purchase (I always get free butane that way too, they usually say "Sure!". I also have never tried a v-cut. I do love punch cuts though. A lot of times I will start with a punch cut, and sometimes in the middle of the cigar, if Im not feeling it, I will just snip off the end with my guillotine cutter...but hey, im weird like that. I like trying new things.
dubleuhb Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 For cutters I love the palio, but I have a dozen that I have acquired. Ashtrays, well I personally like a good heavy one. since most of my cigar enjoyment is inside I have a few. My favorite is a ceramic that was made and painted by my mother. I use one of those 5 stick herfadors whenever I leave the confines of home, You never know when you might meet up with a fellow cigar smoker. Having a few sticks on hand to pass out goes a long way and is a great way to meet fellow cigar enthusiast.
NicPac Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 I love my Xikar products, cutters and lighters. I find myself using my Xikar soft flame mostly. As for an ashtray, I was gifted an Avo ashtray I use...
