gsmoke Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 Might not be in everyone's level of interest, but Gil Scott-Heron passed away today. He was a musical and poetic hero of mine, so just wanted to bring it up. http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2011/05/27...cott-Heron.html? His song "The Bottle" is one of my favorites of all time. Most people may recognize his tune "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised". RIP
cigcars Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 *Great loss of a true music pioneer and hit maker. Rest In Peace. Now making music for The Creator
BobKincaid Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 Damn! That was a late-night kick in the gut. Reckon I'll set fire to something and spend some time listening and digging what he did. I share your sorrow and your grief. Peace.
BobKincaid Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 Here's some of his last work. Profound to the end! Worth more than a couple of replays.
Smallclub Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 Damn, great loss… GSH was a precursor… I guess his funeral will not be televised…

bassman Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 Wow, what a loss. Saw him a couple times in the 70s. Always a fine show. He had a lot of hard drug problems. Sad news, but not surprising.
bstarrs Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 One of the members of The xx reworked his entire last album. It's called "We're New Here" and I'd highly recommend checking it out.
frenchkiwi Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 "i'm the closest thing i have to the voice of reason" ha ha. RIP Mister Scott-Heron. his album of spoken poetry to rhythm "Small Talk at..." is brilliant, and rejections of consumerism etc still unfortunately all the more relevant today...
