Hello fellow FOH members,

I'm going to preface this with saying this is my first stab at a review. I don't have much of a pallet it seems as I had a hard time trying to distinguish flavours but I've tried to learn from the many reviews I've read here and on other sites. So with that, on to the review!

I am reviewing an H. Upmann Connie 1. A staple in many a humidor I'm sure. This cigar is from a SLB I purchased from Czar about a month ago.

Box code is LSO OCT 08

Prelight - Prelight draw is perfect for me, just a tad of resistance. Flavour is light and tastes somewhat of straw

First third - Opening draws are of mild tobacco, with hints of toast. Very smooth tasting, in my notes I wrote "velvety".

Second third - Mild tobacco flavour continues but I'm also tasting tea and some woodyness. Still a smooth smoke however. Burn is slightly uneven but it's producing alot of rich smoke. So far thoroughly enjoyable.

Last third - It's getting a little more earthy and spicy (pepper). Call me crazy but I'm reminded of BBQed corn on the cob. Cigar is still enjoyable but has a fuller flavour than it did in the first two thirds.

Final Thoughts - This my fourth Connie 1 from the box and they have all been consistant which is a good thing. I bought this box because I'm a big fan of the Mag 46 and Mag 50 and so far I'm very happy with it. Overall a very smooth smoke, with some harshness near the end but nothing too bad.

Well, that's if for my first try, and I have to give kudos to those who do this on a regular basis, it's harder than it looks.

Cheers from Canada!

gk404,

I forgot to ask, of the three which do you enjoy the most (Connie 1, Mag 46, or Mag 50)?

Mag 50, Mostly because there's more of it... I also find it's got a nice build up. It starts off mild and gets stronger as you go.

Nice review, well done. I have a box from czar sitting in my humidor that needs a few more months on it. Smoked one so far and got pretty much the same results you did. Out of the three i would say the love the Mag 46 the best. Only had a few Mag 50's but have not seen what all the hype is about. My favorite two HU's are the Sir Winnie and the #2.

Haven't tried the sir winnie or the #2 yet but they're on my list. I've only just started stocking the humi.

It's so hard to be fiscally responsible once you join this place, I've been using every ounce of self control! LOL

Thanks for the great first review! The mag 46, 50 and Connie 1 all hit the spot for me...

Well done :D

I particularly enjoyed your description of BBQ corn on the cob. We often find "popcorn" in Conni 1's so it is nice to see some consistent line amongst different tasters.

A good review! The '08 Connies are just one more reason why 2008 was the "Year of the Upmanns", IMO. Haven't had a bad one yet. These will age magnificently, I'll augur.
