Your best cigar of June 2021?
Euripidespants replied to El Presidente's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
Probably the upmann Connie A Aug 2018. Got the box clearance from our host a couple of years ago. Have had a few intermittently and they were good but the last couple of months they have turned into flavor bombs. Almost overwhelming. Had a friend over this past weekend and he had one. He usually likes non Cubans, likes the occasional stuff I give him, but this cigar floored him. Honestly reminds of the habanos I hade in the mid 90s siglo 3 unknown box code is a very close second. -
The elusive '100 point' cigar
Euripidespants replied to Cigar Surgeon's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
Closest drink I’ve had to 100 was fonseca vintage 1977 drank in 2000. Closest cigars davidoff no 1 and a 90s cohiba siglo V. Cigars are different IMHO. I’ve had tons of great cigars, but that 77 fonseca was beautiful. That was a 99-100. -
On a side note...had a Connie A last Saturday night that was knock out good. Box from 2018 from our host. Had around 7 or 8 soon after I got them in ‘19 and they were good but seemed like there was potential...what a difference a year made. Total flavor bomb. friend of mine I was smoking with smokes a mix of NC and habanos. His quote was “Jesus Christ” when I let him try it. He never had a cigar with that much flavor intensity where it’s damn near overwhelming. I rated it at 92/100. I rate low usually (Best I had were a couple of davidoffs, a mid 90’s boli rc I had in 96, and a early to mid 90s siglo V I had in 98....I’d put those in the 95/100 range) That Connie A was the best cigar of the year hands down. Hopefully the others are just as good, goofy misspelling aside. This was a clearance box btw. Age them around 3 years and enjoy the hell out of them.

40th Birthday Vacation Ideas
Euripidespants replied to cmbarton's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
We’re doing key west in the summer. Looking forward to it and sounds like it matches what you’re looking for. 17 yo son and I will be tarpon fishing. If it’s good enough for Hemingway it’s good enough for me. Spain might be a good option if you’re wanting to travel further. Like you said, your question was pretty open ended and what folks want to do on vacation varies a lot. Vietnam as the boss suggested sounds cool but that’s a long haul from where we’re from. -
Partagas Culebras MSU JUN 18 (PTGSRW)*
Euripidespants replied to shippers's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
I think these are machine rolled. Would explain the ash not holding. Haven’t had one in a while but smoked a lot of machine rolled partagas as a student because I liked them more than the more expensive domestics. Very cheap with plenty of Cuban twang. -

Had a SD4 from 2013 last night. I have one left. One of the best cigars I’ve had this year. Solid 92/100. Just beautiful. Need to get another box -
Love the BRC. Always has been one of my favorites. First great cigar I ever had was a BRC gifted to me in 95. top 5 smokes I’ve had. The bolivar profile fits my taste like a glove when it’s done right. The BRC doesn’t have the power they used to be but still a staple cigar. My go to cigar along with the bpc and BCJ

What proper bunching looks like

Gots to get some -
I have a handful of monte petit edmundos....about half are fantastic...the other half underfilled...starts well. Tons of smoke...then gets hot. Set it down for one minute. Then fighting to keep it lit. Goes out. Relight. Rinse repeat. Luckily I have another...no issues. Have had more issues with underfilled cigars, particularly with the short fat cigars they’ve been pushing. No issues with the old trusty Coronas and petit Coronas.

I had a boli royal corona in 1996 which was outstanding...a gift along w a gift glass of maccallan 25 yr....guy was showing off and I was happy to oblige...still one of the best cigars I’ve ever had. Good dirty power bolivar. boli rc is still one of my favorites but I have to say the cohiba robusto has now beat it for modern day production. I’d give my left nut to try a dunhill cabinetta.

Lamb or prawn vindaloo. With a lager. (From the teachings of red dwarf: a lager is the only thing that can kill a vindaloo) -
Smoking Cigarettes...

Get pregnant. This only works if you have a uterus and functioning ovaries. I helped the wife quit smoking this way. -
COVID-19 Update
Euripidespants replied to SigmundChurchill's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
Sigmund. I’m curious if and how your institution is using ECMO to treat your patients. This past weekend I’ve seen our main hospital use it on several patients. Several of these have advanced disease on imaging, and several were not intubated (I am a radiologist). I didn’t get a chance to speak with one of the pulmonary/critical care docs directly this past weekend, but my understanding is they are seeing some success with the very sick patients. Thanks -
Had one of these to celebrate graduation in 2005. Don’t remember details but your description sounds similar to the experience I had. I remember it not tasting like any partagas I’ve ever had, medium bodied, great flavor, complex. Was outstanding and definitely in the top 10 of best cigars I ever had.

Severa treatment options are being proposed and tried. One of the more interesting responses has been the response to chloroquine, an old anti-malarial drug. Preliminary responses have been promising. keep in mind...one of the most lethal viruses known to man, if not the most lethal...we had a non vaccinated survivor for the firsts time in history by blasting the patient with antiviral drugs created in the last 20 years in response to HIV/AIDS. Those a drugs are being proven to work against multiple viruses even though they were developed against retroviruses edit to clarify...was talking about rabies in the last paragraph. The fact that we had a rabies survivor is a massive medical accomplishment

Cubadust...sounds like your dad has peripheral vascular disease...in most hospital systems (especially socialized medical systems) that means it’s an elective procedure unless there’s obvious ischemia/infarction and gangrene (thus the black foot comment). Unfortunately in a crisis situation or over stressed hospital system if ischemia develops that treatment usually ends up in amputation. In a crisis or socialized overstressed hospital system urgent conditions aren’t treated until they are an emergent condition. Unfortunately in the case of a pandemic and impending bed shortages even urgent cases take a back burner, even in the best hospital systems. A patient with peripheral vascular disease is more likely to need an ICU bed even after a relatively minor procedure (I assume they were planning angioplasty over bypass). so for now the vast majority of elective procedures are being deferred even further to keep icu and critical care beds open in anticipation of an oncoming onslaught. In a pandemic/crisis situation the medical community has to revert to triage. It’s unfortunate and in a better situation your dad would have been treated already. Really rough situation. Best of luck

Several years ago I had good results with the “ stop eating you fat bastard” diet. I lost 50 lbs and was in good shape. I just stopped eating as much and the pounds melted off. problem is I got married and had two kids. Tried the diet again but it doesn’t work if not used in conjunction with the “stop drinking you stupid bastard” diet. Booze calories are a bummer. Drunk lives matter. recipe I used on the “stop eating you fat bastard diet”. 1 saltine cracker 1 bottle of tobasco hot sauce sprinkle the tobasco sauce generously on the saltine cracker. Enjoy.

Your latest CC Purchase?
Euripidespants replied to JayJay's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
Physics. Oil doesn’t evaporate at standard temperatures...water does. Opinion here...the sheen you see is a combination of humidity with the oils and wrapper quality. A Cuban cigar looks beautiful at 72% but will smoke like shit. At 66% may not be as pretty but quality smoking experience. That’s just my experience. -

Jesus...I’ve been smoking and buying habanos for over 20 yrs and this is by far the best vendor I’ve ever used. Hell, they have an entire forum where they don’t mind ppl posting products from other vendors. again...put the the damn box in the humidor for 90 days and see what it looks like. If you are ever unhappy, sell it and you’ll probably even make a profit. Notice the bitching posts haven’t been deleted? Can you think of a single vendor that would allow that and respond to you in an open forum? This is a handmade product from a communist country. He selects the best in his opinion and says so when he posts them for sale. Keep things in perspective and even if your mama never told you when to STFU, email the man directly.
